The storyline: The reigning MaxPreps National Player of the Year against the team he put up 400-plus yards on last November
The last team to beat Baylor was McCallie.
That was the 2024 state final. McCallie was down 21-0, came back, and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 15 seconds left to win 27-21.
Baylor hasn't lost since. It went 12-0 in 2025 and is 6-0 this fall, which makes 18 straight wins. Tonight McCallie gets the first shot at ending the streak it started.
This rivalry has history. The series goes back to 1905. Last season they played twice, and both games came down to the fourth quarter.
The first was at McCallie's Spears Stadium last October. McCallie led 14-0 early and was up 35-31 with 5:51 left. Baylor won 38-35 anyway. David Gabriel Georges ran for 280 yards, with touchdown runs of 51, 53 and 60 yards. It was Baylor's first win on McCallie's campus since 1996.
The rematch was the state semifinal at Heywood. It was tied 35-35 going into the fourth quarter, and Baylor scored the final 21 points.
He called his shot.
Before that game, Baylor coach Erik Kimrey asked Georges how many yards he wanted. Georges answered, "Coach, 400." Late in the game, Georges asked Kimrey to run split zone one more time and broke a 74-yard run on it.
He finished with more than 400 yards and seven touchdowns. The last one was an 85-yard run. McCallie coach Joel Bradford said afterward: "He's the best player in America, hands down."
What Baylor brings. Georges is back for his senior year as the reigning MaxPreps National Player of the Year. He's the first player from Tennessee to win it. He committed to Tennessee on July 22, picking the Vols over Ohio State and Ole Miss.
He opened this season with 250 total yards and three scores against Brentwood Academy on national TV. At Louisville Trinity, he ran for 316 yards and five touchdowns and hit more than 21 mph on one of them.
The new piece is at quarterback. Keegan Croucher transferred in from Connecticut, is committed to Ole Miss, and is rated the No. 4 quarterback in the country by Rivals. His first touchdown pass as a Red Raider came on 3rd-and-9 on the opening drive against Brentwood Academy: a 39-yard throw to Antwaun "Cornbread" Adams. His backup is freshman Marshall Manning, Peyton Manning's son.
Baylor has outscored opponents 248-109, including a 42-0 shutout of CPA. MaxPreps ranks the Red Raiders No. 11 in the country.
What McCallie brings. McCallie started 3-0, including an overtime win over Lipscomb Academy. Since then it has lost three straight: 28-25 to Ensworth, 38-0 to Mallard Creek, and 35-25 to Loudoun Sports Academy.
One result should worry McCallie fans. Loudoun Sports Academy beat McCallie by 10 last week. In August, Baylor beat that same Loudoun team 37-12.
The McCallie offense still has playmakers. Junior quarterback Louis Fortier has 15 touchdown passes. His top target, sophomore Levi Scott III, is averaging 91 receiving yards a game with four touchdowns. Freshman running back Macc Chapin leads the ground game at 93.3 yards per game.
Scott is a Class of 2029 receiver. Ole Miss offered him on June 17, his first SEC offer, and LSU got involved after he camped in Baton Rouge. Tonight is the biggest stage he's had so far.
The standings matter too. This counts in the Division II-AAA East. Baylor is 2-0 in the district and McCallie is 0-1. A loss would leave McCallie two games back with three district games left.
Hot take: Georges finishes under 200 rushing yards tonight, and Baylor still wins by 17 or more.
Here's my reasoning. McCallie's entire defensive plan will be built around stopping No. 0. Kimrey has also said he doesn't plan on giving Georges 30 carries a game when it isn't needed. If McCallie loads up against the run, Croucher gets one-on-one coverage outside. Baylor can win this one through the air.
You might be thinking the guy who called 400 yards and got there doesn't get held under 200 against the same team. That's what the comments are for.
